Falling branch kills chainsaw operator dies

Half Assini, (W/R) Sept. 14, GNA - Kwame Amihere, a 28-year old chainsaw operator's assistant from Mpim, in the Jomoro District, Western Region, died enroute to a hospital following injuries he sustained when the branch of a tree fell on him.

Mr Patrick Annor, Assemblyman for the area, who told the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini, said Amihere and his master, Augustine Abam, went to the forest to saw some boards on September 7.

He said when they cut a tree one of its branches got broken and entangled a nearby tree before the targeted fell.

He said while the operator and his boy were busy at work, the branch hanging on the other tree suddenly got released and landed on them.

According to the assemblyman, the two became unconscious.

The Assemblyman said Amihere died on the way to the Eikwe Catholic Hospital while Abam, a native of Saltpond in the Central Region, who was referred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi is responding to treatment.

The body of the deceased has since been released to the family for burial while police investigations continue.
