Farmer before court for assault

Ejisu (Ash), July 21, GNA - A District Court at Ejisu has granted five million cedis bail with one surety to justify to Kofi Mensah, a 30 year-old farmer at Hwereso, who assaulted Madam Yaa Frimpomaa. He pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on July 25. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector S.S. Kudolo told the court that on June 27, this year, Madam Frimpomaa, the complainant, bought 600,000 cedis worth of cassava from the accused and paid 540,000 cedis.

He said the following day, Madam Frimpomaa went to the house of the accused to pay the remaining amount but did not find him so she gave the money to his sister.

The prosecution said on June 30, the accused met the complainant in town and demanded the rest of his money.

Chief Inspector Kudolo said when the complainant told him that she had given the amount to his sister, he insisted on collecting it but Madam Frimpomaa refused to make another payment. The prosecutor said Mensah requested 10,000 cedis form the complainant for palm wine but she refused.

Chief Inspector Kudolo told the court that the accused became angry and seized the complainant's sack and gave it to one Agyeiwaa but Madam Frimpomaa managed to collect it.

The prosecutor said Mensah beat the complainant and when a man went to her rescue, the suspect bit his right arm. Chief Inspector kudolo said the complainant reported the case to the Ejisu police.
