Farmers at Sutapong, in the Upper-Manya Krobo District, have appealed for the rehabilitation of roads in the area to facilitate their farming business, which is their main source of livelihood.
The farmers who cultivate vegetables such as tomatoes garden eggs and onion are unable to transport their produce to market centres for sale and therefore are left to rot. This according to the farmers was making life difficult for them since they were not getting any returns on their farming activities.
The farmers, made the appeal when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) team interacted with them as part of the GNA developmental journalism project sponsored by STAR-Ghana, a multi-donor pooled organisation.
They said vehicles are not able to ply the road and the few who attempts do so once a week.
The GNA team observed that, the eight-kilometre road from the main Asesewa road to the community is so bad that, the few drivers who ply the road charge above the approved fares and overload both goods and passengers.
Mr Tetteh Padi, an opinion leader told GNA that because of the high fares the farmers prefer to leave their produce on their farms.
