Festival of Ideas

Topic: Identifying Business Opportunities: “What a Day It Was”

Day one of the Festival of ideas touched on identifying business Opportunities. Deaconess Mrs. Joyce Acquaye, a cosmetologist and CEO of Fasti Cosmetics, Ghana’s leading cosmetic retail shop, explained why we must work as Christians and the type of jobs we can engage ourselves in. She opined, “Those who lack vision, lack business opportunities”. She charged participants to look for challenges in their environment and pounce on it, as every problem is an opportunity to do business.

Business is all about providing quality goods and service and we must always position our minds to delivering quality service rather than concentrating on money. She emphasized that “Developing business ideas is not a 1 day project” but requires constant prayers, planning and on the job training. In buttressing her point, Mrs. Acquaye disclosed that as Pregnancy takes 9 months to develop into a child and so is how business ideas develop into real businesses. She charged on Christians to help each other in developing and implementing ideas. Mrs. Acquaye, who is a Deaconess of the Mount Zion Centre of Excellence, Asylum Down, touched on branding. Branding makes your business unique. Colours, designs and positioning of your business in your environment can either make or unmake you in your line of trade. She indicated that SME’s can brand their businesses on combination of parameters including product quality, excellent customer services, competitive price, work ambience and location. She indicated that successful entrepreneurs need to persevere by believing in their ideas and always displaying positive inter-personal skills. She reiterated that those who work for others must be diligent, hardworking, honest and prudent in the delivery of their services. as God will surely reward them with promotions et al. Her statement was likened to the saying in the Bible that says give and it shall be given onto you…and you shall also receive in the same manner that you give. She urged on the church to at least, know the business lines of all its members and encouraged the church to create platforms for business networking and entrepreneurial development.
