Fire destroys Workshop at Winneba-Junction

Winneba Junction (C/R), April 4, GNA-The Managing Director of Aboagyewa Dressmaking Workshop at Winneba Junction in the Central Region, Madam Lydia Aboagyewah, has made an appeal to the Ministry of Women and Children's Affair for equipment and financial assistance to enable her to revive the industry.

The appeal followed a fire disaster which virtually destroyed the workshop, including, six sewing machines, and other working materials worth about 16 million cedis.

She made the appeal through the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at Winneba on Monday.

According to Mad. Aboagyewah, the disaster had severely affected both the future of her business and her apprentices whose machines had been burnt.

She expressed the hope that the appeal would touch the hearts of the sector Minister, Non-Governmental Organizations and philanthropists to respond favourably.

Mr. Francis Atoh Doughan, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Co-ordinator of NADMO expressed sympathy to the fire victims and assured them that their request would be channelled to the appropriate authorities for consideration.

Mr Doughan advised parents and guardians of the apprentices of Madam Aboagyewah not to be discouraged by the misfortune that had befallen them but to maintain their faith and trust in God who, he hoped, would be able to fulfil their desire.

Meanwhile, the cause of the disaster is being investigated by the district branch of the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS).
