Amidst the initiative to make the city of Cape Coast a model city, lots of activities are being undertaken to ensure that the metropolis gets a facelift in terms of infrastructural development.

Especially, under the auspices of the current Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Ernest Arthur, and the Coastal Development Authority, who during the early period of this year, did indicate some of the developmental projects to be done for the year.

Earlier this year, the Coastal Development Authority announced that there will soon be the construction of a new market at Anafo in the Cape Coast metropolis.

The project was alleged to have been estimated at a cost of GHS 8.6 million Ghana cedis and was soon to commence.

However, checks from Ghanaweb reveals that, the wife of the current president, Madam Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo is set to cut sod for the project, today, March 10, 2020 at the project site at Anafo adjacent Melcom supermarket in the Cape Coast metropolis.

The old market was raised to dust last weekend to make room for the market to be refurbished.

Paying a working visit to the site, today, Monday, March 9, 2020, it was realized that work had already began on the site with the Fine Job company limited as contractors allegedly billed to be working on the project, busily working with their tractors on the field.

In an interview with Ghanaweb, the contractor in charge, indicated that the project costs almost 8.6 million cedis as stated by the Deputy CEO for the Coastal Development Authority, Mr. Kofi Karikari – Bondzie. “The project is a one-year project which is going to cost about 8.6 million Ghana cedis.

However, when the first lady cuts the sod for tomorrow’s project, we will release the entire details for the project.

The Anafo market project is set to accelerate the socio-economic development of the people of Cape Coast with the Authority’s focus on community specific projects.

Early this year, the Deputy CEO of the Authority, Mr. Kofi Karikari-Bondzie said in an interview with Cape Coast-based ATL FM that the project will be funded by the CDA under the government’s special projects which falls in line with government’s one million dollars per constituency initiative.

The entire project forms part of the core duties of the CDA in providing fundamental infrastructural development at the various constituency levels through the Infrastructural for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).
