Five people died in an accident at Gomoa Potsin

Gomoa Potsin (C/R), Oct. 05, GNA - Five persons died, three on the spot and two others later at the Winneba Government Hospital when a 207 bus on which they travelling from Akim Oda to Accra collided with an articulated truck near Gomoa Potsin on Saturday.

The deceased were, Juliet Sapomma, from Akim Awisa, Kwadwo Otchere, driver of the bus, from Agona Swedru, Isaac Nyanne from Adansi Apagya, Sackey Edmond Okoe, an employee of the Union Bank, Winneba and a 24-year old man yet to be identified.

Mr. Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that the bus was traveling from Akim Oda to Accra while the articulated truck was heading towards Takoradi. Mr. Gasu said some few meters to Gomoa Potsin the trailer of the truck went into the offside of the lane of the bus which ran into it. He said the bus somersaulted and turned upside down on the road killing three people including the driver on the stop. The District Police Commander said five other people who received injuries were on admission at the Hospital and responding to treatment. They were, Mercy Koomson from Tabola an Accra suburb and her 10 months old baby boy Bright Frempong, Michael Appiah from Akim Oda, Enoch Dadzie, from Winneba and Kweku Bedu from Takoradi. Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary for autopsy.

Mr. Gasu said driver of the truck whose name had been withheld for security reasons has been remanded into prison custody by an Awutu Beraku Magistrate court to re-appear on October 13. His plea was not taken. 05 Oct.05
