Wa, Aug. 16, GNA - Communities in South Sissala area in the Wa District have been cut away from the regional capital, Wa following a heavy downpour on Thursday. Reports reaching the Ghana News Agency indicate that two bridges on the Wa-Funsi-Kunchungu main road had been washed away while the bridge on River Wahabu had been flooded. One of the bridges, which was damaged during last year's floods and was constructed this year had been affected again bringing movement of goods and people to a halt, as lorries plying the area were unable to reach the communities. Mr Timothy Dambo, Upper West Regional Coordinator of National Disaster management Organisation (NADMO) confirmed the report and said a heavy down pour on Thursday had flooded the bridge on River Wahabu, making it difficult for lorries to ply Wa-Wallembele-Tumu road. Mr Dambo said eight communities, Kulung, Yanyounbe, Chauwi, Manpesi, Gbantula, Kpariwongu, Holomuri and Bielekpong had had their farms submerged. They should also avoid plying the Wa-Wahabu-Wellembele-Tumu road as well as Wa-Fumsi-Kumdiayi road. Mr. Dambio appealed to residents to move away from low land areas to high lands and carry out maintenance work on their buildings to protect them from collapsing.
