Fobih cautions constituents to stop wrangling about proposed capital

Assin-Adiembra (C/R), Jan. 5, GNA - Prof Dominic Fobih, Minister of Lands and Forestry and MP for Assin South, has told his people that he had been worried about the "wrangling and animosity" over the possible location of the capital of the newly created district of Assin South. He expressed concern that if the people did not bury their differences over the choice of the capital for the new district, government might be "compelled to shelve its decision to split the Assin District into two."

Prof. Fobih, gave the caution when he inaugurated the Assin-Adiembra Youth Club. He said where the new capital was located should not be a bone of contention and that what was most important was that the district was split into two and received its fair share of all financial assistance for accelerated development. Prof Fobih said a bill naming the capitals and descriptive areas of the newly created districts was to be tabled before Parliament when it re-convened on January 15.

The endorsement of the bill and the subsequent publication of its approval in a gazette, would pave the way for the setting up of the apparatus of government machinery in the new capitals. The MP appealed to members of the club to educate those who had taken a hard stand over the proposed capital for the new district, to compromise in the interest of development of the area. He said work on the sealing of the 39 kilometre Foso-Twifo Praso trunk road and the construction of a new school block at Adiembra would begin early this year and urged the people to continue to have faith in the government as it would deliver on its promises.

Mr Derrick Ambrose Owusu, assemblyman for Adiembra said the District Assembly would start the construction of a drainage system and a bus stop in the town to befit its status as the gateway to the Ongwa Area Council. Mr Kwasi Ayim, secretary and spokesman for the club, said it was focusing on HIV/AIDS and supporting the education of needy but brilliant pupils.
