Former Birim South DCE encroaches on Assembly's land

Akim Oda, Jan. 26, GNA - A five-member-committee appointed by the Birim South District Assembly, has recommended the demolition of a canteen owned by the immediate past Birim South District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Amprofi, which had been illegally constructed on a piece of land allocated to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for the construction of its district offices.

The canteen, which was constructed by Mr Amprofi without seeking approval from the District's Statutory Planning Committee, was being run by the wife.

This came to light when the members of the committee presented their report to the Assembly at Akim Oda on Wednesday and urged the GNFS to document the land for approval by the Assembly and to take the necessary steps to develop it as early as possible. The committee also recommended that a list of all unauthorized structures identified in the District should be compiled by the Assembly and presented to the Statutory Planning Committee for appropriate action.

In order to set a good example for the people, the committee urged the Assembly to ensure that people in authority were made to abide by laid down rules and regulations in the acquisition and usage of property belonging to the Assembly. Meanwhile, the Assembly has approved new rates and fees for the year to generate more revenue to finance development projects in the area.
