Kade (E/R), May 20, GNA - Four aspiring parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have filed their nominations to contest the Kade Constituency primaries towards the December polls.
They are the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lawyer Ofosu Asamoah, 35, Dr Kwame Ankoma Kwakye, 51, an industrial chemical consultant, Mr Bismark Asiedu Amponsah, 56, an economist and business executive, and Mr William Ampem-Darko, 51, management specialist and a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). A fifth candidate, Mr Kofi Opong Asante, 49, an Accra-based tour operator, however died last month.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kade, Mr Kwaku Sarpong, NPP constituency chairman, said all four have paid the required deposit. Mr Sarpong said the candidates would be vetted by the party ahead of the primaries at a date yet to be fixed.
He called for a clean and fair elections to select credible parliamentarians throughout the country, adding that he has no doubt that President Kufuor would win by a landslide victory to continue "the programme of resuscitating an ailing economy" which his government inherited in 2001.
The chairman was hopeful that NPP would retain all its parliamentary seats nationwide and even add more "in view of the wonderful performance" by the party's parliamentarians.
