Kumasi, Feb 09, GNA - The Ashanti Region National Youth Council (NYC) is to organise skill training and upgrading for ex-convicts in the region in a bid to resettle and re-organise them to fit into society. The skill-training project is in collaboration with the clergy, Prison Service, Labour Office, Department of Social Welfare and the Federation of Youth Associations.
Mr Amankwaa Frimpong, Regional Co-ordinator of NYC, told the GNA in an interview that the project is one of the three main areas envisaged by the Council this year as its contribution to tackle some societal problems in the country.
He said the other areas to be considered are the training of non ex-convicts master artisans, health and environmental sanitation to help improve the general health and well being of the people as well as alleviate poverty and create more jobs for the youth.
