Fuel shortage hits Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis

There has been shortage of fuel in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region for the past four days.

According to the Manager of the Edzii Goil Filling Station in Takoradi, Mr. Ato Edzii, the station ran out of petrol on December 28.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday morning that he received notification from his suppliers at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) a couple of days ago that there had been a shortage of patrol at the plant.

He added that just this morning he received another information from his suppliers that a ship containing fuel had berthed at the Tema Port to discharge fuel and assured his clients that within a couple of days they would receive fresh stock for sale.

Mr. Edzii stated that there is available diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for sale and appealed to the public to be patient since there was high demand for patrol during the Christmas festivities.

When the GNA visited other fuel filling stations at the Takoradi Market Circle,Sekondi, Essikadu, Apremdo and Kwesimintsim, the fuel attendants confirmed the shortage.

Others had erected "No Patrol inscriptions" at the entrance of the depot to inform their clients.

Some commercial drivers who spoke to the GNA urged the government to put measures in place to forestall the situation in order to avoid public outcry in the New Year.
