The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to prioritize investment in basic education, comprising primary and junior high schools.

Speaking at the GBA's Annual General Conference in Kumasi, Mr. Acheampong Boafo suggested that the government should focus on improving the quality of basic education, making it accessible and affordable for all.

He also proposed that parents who can afford to pay fees for their wards in high schools should be allowed to do so, in order to reduce the financial burden on the government.

Mr. Acheampong Boafo argued that this approach would enable the government to allocate more resources to basic education, ensuring that all children have access to quality education from the foundation level.

The GBA President's remarks were made in the presence of President Akufo-Addo, who was the special guest of honor at the conference.

Akufo-Addo, in his response, acknowledged the importance of basic education and assured the GBA that his government is committed to improving the sector.

He noted that the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has increased access to secondary education, but emphasized that more needs to be done to strengthen the foundation of education in the country.
