Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), July 26, GNA - About 1,137 school children in the Amansie West District of Ashanti are to benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) scholarship.
Mr E.K. Amoah, the District Director of Education, who announced this in an interview with the GNA at Manso-Nkwanta at the weekend, said 111.1 million cedis had been allocated for the scheme to promote education in the area.
He said at the primary school level, 784 pupils made up of 470 girls and 314 boys would benefit from the scheme with each of them getting 85,000 cedis for the payment of school fees, levies and the purchase of school uniforms.
Mr Amoah said at the Junior Secondary School (JSS) level, 353 students made up of 212 girls and 141 boys would receive 110,000 cedis each to defray educational expenses.
He said under the package, 5.553 million cedis would be allocated for the purchase of spectacles and crutches for disabled students to enhance their studies.
Mr Amoah said those who would be selected for the scholarship would be expected to learn hard to justify the investment that would be made in their education.
He praised Miss Celestia Obeng of the Manso-Nkwanta Local Authority JSS in the District for winning the "Sara" Educational Contest, organised for schools in the Ashanti Region.
