GHACEM, Aluworks donate to displaced persons

Tema, June 27, GNA - GHACEM Limited and Aluworks Limited both in Tema, at separate functions on Monday, presented building materials to persons displaced by rains at Bompata in the Asante Akim South District.

While GHACEM donated 300 bags of cement worth 20 millions cedis to schools that had their buildings ripped off, Aluworks also donated two packets of roofing sheets valued 2.6 million cedis to the victims. Mr Morten Gade, the Managing Director, presented the cement while Mr David Adzogble, Senior General Manager of Operations, presented the donation from Aluworks.

The donors expressed sympathy for the victims and said the gesture formed part of their companies' social responsibilities to alleviate the suffering of the people. He said the donations were in response to a national appeal to individuals and companies to assist the victims. Mr Gade said GHACEM supported education and health institutions and expressed the hope that the donation would alleviate the plight of the people.

Receiving the gifts, Mrs Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, commended the two companies for donating to the victims. She appealed to philanthropists and organisations to assist in rehabilitating about 500 people who were also displaced by the floods.
