GJA postpones election of Corporate Member

Accra, Jan. 24 GNA- The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee announced on Tuesday that it was postponing the election for the position of Corporate Member until the GJA Corporate Membership was duly constituted.

A statement signed by Mr Ben Assorow, Chairman of the Elections Committee, said this followed further consultations with the GJA National Executive over the issue.

The Committee further informed members of the Association that the close of nominations for the various positions would be February 7 instead of February 8. Nominations would open on Wednesday, January 25. It said members of the Association were being reminded that a provisional voters' list would be published this week in the "Daily Graphic" and "The Chronicle".

"Any paid-up member whose name is not on the list has up to one week from the date of publication of the list to liaise with the GJA Secretariat."

Positions to be contested for in the March 9 election are President, Vice President, General-Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer and Public Affairs Officer.

Candidates vying for any executive position shall be full members of the Association for at least five years and must be in good standing at least 90 days before the elections.

Two members in good standing, both of whom shall not come from the same media organisation, shall make nominations of a candidate for a National Executive position.
