GNA story on Ajumako-Afranse Youth Centre is correct

The GNA news item "Work on National Youth Centre Progresses" carried by the "Daily Graphic" in the its Saturday November 22, edition is correct.

The Central Regional Office of the GNA states that there are two projects on the site at Ajumako-Afranse and it was one of them that the news item referred to.

The GNA was reacting to a rejoinder sent by the Construction and Building Materials Workers' Union of the Trades Union Congress (CBMWU/TUC) carried in the Wednesday, November 26 edition of the "Daily Graphic" that sought to question the veracity of the news item.

The GNA explained that one of the projects at Ajumako-Afranse was initiated by the CBMWU/TUC in collaboration with its sister building union, the Bouw-en-Houtbond (BHB) of the Netherlands Federation of Trades Unions (FNV) as non-bargaining social activity and its contribution to enhancing the social status of a distressed community.

This project, which has been named after the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has been completed and could, therefore, not have been the subject of the news item.

The other project, which is being funded by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the 12 District Assemblies in the Central Region, was the subject matter of the story.

It is this project, which is at the lintel level, that the National Co-ordinator of National Youth Council (NYC), Mr Joe Mante inspected and was the subject matter of the story.
