GNAT supports burnt teacher with cash

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), on Wednesday presented a cheque of GH¢1,500 to support Mr Raphael Sedenkor, a teacher of Father Lemmens Junior High School, who got burnt last year, at a ceremony in Koforidua.

Mr Sedenkor, whose whole body got burnt in a gas explosion in a domestic accident, is now at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital, where he is undergoing further treatment.

Mr George Aboagye, New Juaben Municipal GNAT Secretary, who presented the cheque, said he heard of Mr Sedenkors' plight while visiting schools in the area last year.

He said Mr Sedenkor would need over GH¢3,000 to undergo surgery.

Mr Aboagye said he made an appeal on behalf of Mr Sedenkor at the Annual General Meeting of the New Juaben Teachers Welfare Fund and members made a contribution of GH¢500.

He said on behalf of GNAT, he made an appeal to the New Juaben Municipal Directorate of Education and the GNAT head office in Accra.

Mr Aboagye said, based on that appeal, the New Juaben Municipal Directorate of Education managed to contribute GH¢1,000 from schools in the Municipality, which was presented to Mr Sedenkor’s wife while the GNAT also made a donation of GH¢1,500 to support his medical care.

Ms Harriet Adu-Amoah, wife of Mr Sedenkor, received the cheque on behalf of her husband.

She expressed her appreciation to the New Juaben GNAT secretariat and executive for their efforts to support the health care of her husband.**
