New Achimota GA - Feb. 17 GNA - Mr. Samuel Nii Aryeetey Attoh, Ga District Chief Executive, on Monday presented roofing sheets valued at 52 million cedis to the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School at New Achimota towards the completion of a JSS block.
Speaking at the ceremony he said quality education was the key to a nation's development, and that the government through the District Assembly was committed to providing the basic infrastructure such as school blocks and teachers' quarters to enhance teaching and learning. Mr. Attoh expressed profound gratitude to the old Parish Priest Rev. Father Francis Machado, founder of the school, the members of the Parents Teacher Association and the entire community for starting the project before calling for assistance from the government.
He called for collaborations from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other agencies to complement the Assembly's effort to bring basic education to the doorsteps of every child in the district.
Rev. Machado, who received the items on behalf of the school commended the Assembly for its support and appealed to other benevolent societies to emulate the shinning example of the Assembly.
Col. (Rtd) Teye Kisseih, Assemblyman for the area appealed to the parents to support the school by providing logistics to their wards instead of using their monies for expensive clothes and funerals.
