Gefia, Aug. 1, GNA- Gefia community in the Akatsi District of the Volta Region, has planned to build additional block of six classrooms, office and staff common room for the local Senior Secondary School at the cost of 120,000 Ghana cedis. Mr. Anthony Abledu, Akatsi District Chief Executive (DCE), announced this when he cut the sod for work on the building to start, at a fund raising in support of the project, at Gefia at the weekend.
The DCE urged parents to invest in the education of the their children to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge required for national development. He commended teachers of the school for contributing to the development of education in the area, despite the poor facilities and working conditions. Mr. Abledu also praised the Diamond Cement Ghana Limited at Aflao for donating 100 bags of cement towards the project, and asked students to learn hard to enable them to pass their examinations, despite the school's inadequate infrastructure.
The DCE donated 10 bags of cement towards the project and appealed to individuals and organisations to also donate towards the project. Mr Frank Akpaku, Headmaster, said the school since its establishment in 1994, with the current student population of 42 and 12 tutors, witnessed two closures due to poor facilities. He cited irregular payment of salary of staff, which was being footed by the community. About 1,000 Ghana cedis and 60 bags of cement were realized at the fund raising.
