The Management Council for the Ghana Catholic Youth Organization has selected Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Unity Hall for the celebration of the organisation's 75th anniversary in Ghana.

This follows approval by the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference (GCBC) for the leaders to proceed with the 75th-anniversary celebration from Tuesday, August 27, to Sunday, September 1st, on the theme “Sustaining the Church Through Youthful Productivity: Challenges and the Way Forward.”

Over 1000 crusaders in the organisation are expected to participate in the five-day anniversary celebration.

The C.Y.O. is an international organisation that exists in all parts of the world under different names.

It was founded on August 22, 1949, in Ghana by His Lordship, Right Rev. Bishop Adolf Noser, SVD, DD of the Accra Diocese, and Rev. Peter Norek, SVD.

Branches of the movement spread throughout the country on a diocesan basis, independent of each other, and it was in 1959 that a National Federation of All Catholic Youth Movements in all the various dioceses was formed at the express wish of the Hierarchy.

The C.Y.O. is an organization that takes the parish as its base and, without regard to social class or profession, provides young people with Christian community life in order to prepare them for active cooperation in building a living church and a better world.

Further, it is the objective of the organization to inspire, direct, and guide the natural creative qualities and desires of young people by promoting recreational, educational, cultural, and religious programs that will adequately meet their physical, mental, and spiritual needs.
