Ghana Fire Service records increase fire out break in Central Region

The Central Regional office of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) recorded a total of 499 fire outs breaks last year as against 317 in 2011, representing a 182 increase of cases.

She said out of the figure domestic fires recorded the highest with 157 cases as against 95 in 2011.

Ms Nana Yaa Anane, an Assistant Division Officer of the Service made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Cape Coast on Tuesday.

According to her 139 bushfires were recorded last year as against 79 in 2011 with vehicular fire recording 91 in 2012 as against 61 in 2011.

Fifty six electrical were recorded last year as against 37 in 2011.

Ms Anane said nine institutional fires were recorded last year compared to three in 2011 and while two industrial fires each were recorded in 2012 and 2011.

She said due to the recent market fire outbreaks her outfit is leaving no stone un-turned and that the necessary measures are being put in place to curb the menace.

Ms Anane advised market women who cook in the market, to endeavour to put out all fires before they leave the place to avoid disaster.

She urged the public to strive to engage qualified electricians to wire and install their electric gadgets to avoid possible fire out breaks.
