The data being currently generated is helping to transform virtually every sector of development, including healthcare, transportation, energy and manufacturing.
Massive information has been analyzed, integrated and disseminated in novel ways to make the world a better place, according to a statement issued by the Ghana Open Data Initiative (GODI) to mark Data Innovation Day, copied to the Ghana News Agency.
It said the theme for the first annual Data Innovation Day is “Big Data, Bigger Opportunities”, and GODI “is proud to be amongst the dozens of companies, universities, and governments that have signed on to become partners.”
“Our participation in Data Innovation Day highlights our organization’s unique role in the evolving industry that is big or open data,” the statement cited Mr. William Tevie, GODI Project Director.
“By looking at what all of our partners are doing, it is clear that big data is playing a significant role in both the economy of Ghana and how our government functions”.
The statement said Data Innovation Day is held on January 24 each year to raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities that comes from increased use of information by individuals and the public and private sector.
The Ghana Open Data Initiative of the Ministry of Communications is being spearheaded by the National Information Technology Agency, the information technology implementing agency of government.
The objective of the GODI includes making public government data available in re-usable formats to create business opportunities, drive innovation and promote transparency in government transactions.
