According to him, Zoomlion’s existence from 2006 to 2017 has made some remarkable achievement. Implementation and enforcement of sanitation By-Laws will help progress sanitation in Ghana.
People in most communities use primary drains (big gutters) as a waste receptacle.
“When the clouds forms and it’s about to rain you will see people within such localities gather their refuse with the hope that when it rains they dump these refuse into the drains for the rain water to wash it away. I am talking about the major drains in this country Achimota, Panbros, Osu and even the major one behind the castleâ€.
Mr Coleman said, We are living in a country where people dump refuse into open drains without been sanctioned. There are authorities within such localities (Assemblymen, Opinion Leaders, Waste Management Contractors), yet we still experience such things. People do this with impunity.
He was speaking on Ahotor morning show ‘Omanmu Nsem’ hosted by Emmanuel Quarshie ‘Hitsman’.
He further stated that, we have the responsibility as a Waste Management Company to distill Primary and Secondary drains. But when it comes to the enforcement of By-Laws the Municipal,District Assembly and Metropolitan has the legal responsibility. “The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has enacted and promulgated a fantastic By-Laws in their status books made by themâ€.
He therefore commended the former Mayor Of Accra Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije for establishing sanitation courts in some sub districts in Accra Metropolitan Assembly to ensure that people who abuse the environment are sent to court and prosecuted expeditiously.
