Fodoa (ER), Sept. 11, GNA - Assembly Members and other opinion leaders in the Kwahu-West Municipal have been asked to support the 2010 Population and Housing Census, which commences on September 26. Mr John Tetteh, Kwahu-West Municipal Officer of the Statistical Service Department, who made the appeal on Thursday, called for support for census officials to enable them to collect accurate and reliable data for the formulation of national policies and programmes. He led the Municipal Education and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Population and Housing Census to sensitise the people in thee area about the forth-coming exercise.
Mr Tetteh said that because the Census had many implications for development planning in the country, it had generated interest among all stakeholders.
He said the exercise would enable Government to revise issues concerning electoral areas and constituencies and provide data for newly created districts for development.
Mr, Tetteh said that it would also assist the Central Government, Regions and District Assemblies in planning and monitoring education, health, housing and other socio-economic services. He said the census would assist in tracking and evaluating the progress of poverty reduction programmes and other core-targets of the economy to determine the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. The Municipal Information Officer, Ms Ivy Mantey called on household heads to respond to census questionnaire on behalf of all other members and release information on all visitors.
