Kuntanase (Ash), Aug 23, GNA- Mr Abubakari Adam Sandu, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Trades Union congress (TUC) has asked the government to give budgetary support to labour unions in the country. This, he said, would cater for the training of workers on the new labour law to help curb demonstrations and agitations.
Mr Sandu said when workers understood their rights, and responsibilities they would then begin to use appropriate channels to address their grievances instead of resorting to demonstrations. He was speaking at a day's workshop organised by the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Council of Labour at Kuntanase, which aimed at educating workers on the new labour law.
Mr Mathew Baffoe, chairman of the District Council of Labour, noted that a lot of agitations from labour that at times turned violent could be attributed to ignorance on the part of some workers.
He said since the new labour law had put in place the necessary structures for addressing grievances instead of resorting to strike or demonstration. All workers should therefore be well educated on the law, he added.
