One person died on the spot when a 33-Seater Benz bus skidded off the road in an attempt to avoid running over a goat around the Barwah Barracks on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway.
The body of Baba Abdulai, 25, the mate of the vehicle, has been deposited at the morgue of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
Three passengers on board the vehicle are also in critical condition at the TTH, while 27 others who sustained various degrees of injury are still receiving treatment at the hospital. The accident happened last week.
The Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region, Superintendent Cashman Blewushie, told The Mirror that the vehicle was travelling from Tamale to Nalerigu but upon reaching the Barwah Barracks area, the driver, in an attempt to avoid killing a goat that was crossing the road, lost control of the vehicle and as a result, somersaulted several times, killing Abdulai instantly.
According to Supt. Blewushie, in the process, Abdulai landed on his head, while the mangled vehicle landed on its roof with its tyres facing up.
