Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa Mine has donated 700 mono desks worth 104,000 Ghana Cedis to Tarkwa Senior High School and Fiaseman Senior High School.
Presenting the items to both schools at a separate event, the Vice President and Head of Human Resources of Gold Fields West Africa, Mr. Francis Eduku said the donation was to create a conducive environment for the students to enable them study well and improve on their academic performance.
The beneficiaries, Tarkwa Senior High School and Fiaseman Senior High School received 400 and 300 each of the items respectively.
Making the symbolic presentation over the weekend, Mr. Francis Eduku said that education is the bedrock for national development and every effort should be made to ensure that education is given the needed attention.
The exercise according to him forms part of the efforts outlined by the company to assist schools within their operational communities to improve on educational standard. He said education is a pivot around which human capital development revolves.
He also said the donation was as a result of request made by both schools asking the company to assist them with desks.
Mr. Eduku noted that the company after reviewing the request of both schools agreed to grant them their request because infrastructure challenges had become one of the most challenges to some senior high schools making teaching and learning difficult to both teachers and students.
The students were in last academic year seen sitting on plastic chairs without tables during classes time, a situation, Mr. Eduku indicated affect the academic performance of the students.
To this end, Mr. Eduku admonished the students of both schools to take their academic studies seriously to enable them secure brighter future in the competitive world.
The Head Master of Fiaseman Senior High School, Mr. John Kofi Sagoe who received the items on behalf of the schools, thank Gold Fields Ghana, Tarkwa Mine for the kind gesture.
He, therefore, appealed to the company to come into their aid and support them with students dormitory as well as furnishing their science laboratory with modern equipment.
The Head Master again appealed to the company to assist the school to address the teacher's accommodation issues.
He concluded by promised that the management of the school will do everything possible to ensure that the items donated to them are kept in a good condition.
