Gomoa Assembly trains 100 teachers, but more needed

Apam (C/R) Oct. 26, GNA - The Gomoa District Assembly (GDA) has so far sponsored the training of 100 teachers who are currently teaching in the District since the inception of the sponsorship of students to Teacher Training Colleges Programme began two years ago. Mr. Isaac Baidoo Gomoa District Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said despite this achievement there were more classrooms that were without teachers and stressed the need for the recruitment of more teachers.

He said only 28 pupil teachers had been recruited this year to augment the situation and appealed to the Assembly to increase its number to enable it turn out more teachers to meet the District's demand.

On furniture, Mr. Baidoo said the GES had taken delivery of a quantity of dual desks valued at over 29.5 million cedis for distribution to schools.

He commended the chief and people of Gomoa Nyanyano for the assistance they had been giving to teachers posted to the area that encouraged them to stay and called on other communities in the District to emulate their example.

Speaking to the GNA at Mumford, the head teacher of the Community 'B' JSS, Mr. Ebenezer Adoko said only 13 of the required 18 teachers were at post.

He, however, commended member of staff of the school for their dedication, hard work and response to duty that made the school chalk hundred percent (100 per cent) in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Mr. Adoko appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their wards stayed at home with their books in the evenings and at weekends.
