Gomoa East District roots for Jehu-Appiah

Gomoa Afransi (C/R), May 12, GNA - Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress of the wards in Gomoa East (NDC) and the Assembly Members of Gomoa has called on the President, Professor John Atta Mills to nominate Mr Jonamoah Moses Jehu-Appiah, as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East.

According to them Mr Jehu-Appiah had been a true and faithful member of the NDC, who could help in the organization of the party and strengthen it.

They noted that, he was among the last three contestants short listed by the Central Regional Vetting Committee of the party for the position and that he is the one who could mange the district due to his vast experience as a Senior Meteorologist of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA).

Mr Clement Kojo Odoom an Executive of the Gomoa Asebu NDC Ward told the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa Afransi that, the members were prepared to support Mr Jehu-Appiah, since the President's nominee, Mr Kwasi Ampah had been rejected by the assembly. Mr Odoom said the nomination of Mr Jehu-Appiah would go a long way in carving a good image for the district and the party, since he performed creditably during the vetting in Cape Cost. According to him Mr Jehu-Appiah would not discriminate in the administration of the district if he is elected DCE because he had the capacity to work

A Ward Executive from Gomoa Akropong-Benso, Mr John Andam, said their interactions with teachers, health workers, farmers and fishermen in the area indicated that they were in favour of Mr Jehu-Appiah. He noted that Mr Jehu-Appiah was capable of bringing both local and foreign investors to the area to establish businesses and create wealth and jobs for the youth, adding that, this would raise infrastructural developments and improve the living standards of the people. He said that apart from his academic record, he was a peace loving person who would unite both party members and the opposition in the district to ensure peace and tranquillity. They underscored the constant relationship between them and the contestant before and after the December 2008 elections, which proved that he could work hard to unite the rank and file to ensure the growth of the party.

The call on the President Mills to nominate Jehu-Appiah followed the rejection of Mr Theophilus Kwesi Ampah as District Chief Executive for the area.

On April 28, 2009, Assembly Members of the Gomoa East District failed to confirm the President nominee when he polled nine votes out of 30 at Gomoa Afransi.

The Electoral Commission (EC) stated that since Mr Ampah got 30 percent of the total votes it means that he has been rejected and the President would be informed to make fresh nomination for the position of the District Chief executive.
