Gomoa Ngyiresi, (C/R), Jan 28, GNA - The chiefs and people of Gomoa Ngyiresi in the Central Region at the weekend raised 27 million cedis at a fund-raising harvest in aid of street lights and other development projects.
The Gomoa Ngyiresi Youth Association organise the harvest, which attracted dignitaries including Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive for Gomoa, Mr Joe Donkor, Gomoa West Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mr Joe Hackman Member of Parliament for Gomoa West. Speaking at the function, Ms Aidoo praised the Association for its high sense of direction and patriotism towards the development of Ngyiresi.
She said the District Assembly was doing everything possible to ensure that developmental programmes embarked upon by the government were fairly distributed to the various communities within the districts. Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, NPP Presidential Candidate and Mr Alan Kyerematen, former NPP Aspirant were represented at the function to thank the delegates of the party's National Delegates' Congress held at Legon, in Accra last year.
The DCE urged the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access affordable quality health care.
Mr Donkor said there was the need for the people to rally behind the NPP government, adding that since the NPP took over the administration of the country, more towns had been provided with development projects.
The Constituency Chairman urged voters in Gomoa West not to be deceived by other politicians with lies which could create problems for them in the near future, adding that the people in Gomoa should remember that the government had kept faith with the areas of education, health, roads and poverty reduction.
He called on the people to register when the voters' register was opened in March this year, to enable them to exercise their franchise in the December general elections. Mr Francis Odoom, Secretary of t he Gomoa Ngyiresi Youth Association appealed to non-resident citizens to visit home regularly to support on-going development projects initiated by the residents. He said the residents at home had been tasked to pay voluntary contributions of one Ghana cedi, while non-residents were paying two Ghana cedis towards the completion of the street lights project. He urged citizens living outside the town to come home during this year's Akwanbo Festival slated for August.
