Gomoa Obokrom citizens show appreciation for teachers' efforts

Gomoa-Obokrom (C/R), Jan. 20, GNA - Chiefs and opinion leaders at Gomoa-Obokrom in the Central Region, on Sunday expressed their appreciation of the work of teachers in the town for their tireless efforts at improving basic education in the area.

Nana Kusah Abaka-Oboh VI, Odzekro, Nana Obentsi-Attah IV, Mankrado and Mr. Albert Ekow Essaah, an officer of the Ghana National Fire Service and citizen of Obokrom, were speaking at a ceremony to round-off the annual Akwambo festival of the chiefs and people.

According to the three distinguished personalities, the excellent performance of teachers in the town had enabled Obokrom Junior Secondary School to maintain its enviable position as the best JSS institution in the Gomoa District, which recorded the best grades in Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE) in the past three consecutive years.

Nana Abaka-Oboh and the Mankrado Nana Obentsi-Attah advised the teachers to maintain the spirit for more laurels in the years ahead. They pledged their continued support and co-operation to create the right atmosphere under which the teachers and their supervisors could operate more satisfactorily.

Nana Kusah Abaka-Obo and Nana Obentsi-Attah advised non-resident citizens currently farming in other parts of the country not to use their children for farming alone, but to strive to give them basic education at the least.

Nana Abaka-Oboh advised citizens living in communities which did not have basic schools to send their children home to start primary education, adding that the primary school facility in the town would be useless if citizens failed to enrol their children.

The three opinion leaders praised members of Obokrom Citizens Association in Kumasi and Accra as well as Mr. Yaw Attah Taylor, a native of the town who was adjudged the 2003 best Cocoa Farmer for the Ashanti Region, for donating bulbs and electricity poles for the improvement of the Obokrom street lighting system.

In a speech, Mr Yaw Attah Taylor promised to make more meaningful contribution towards the development of the town at the end of the year, adding that it was incumbent on citizens at home and outside to help make the place a better place to live.

He appealed to non-resident citizens, particularly to strive to conserve part of their income so that they could make appreciable financial contributions to the implementation of development projects initiated by those at home when called upon to do so.

Earlier, Mr. Essaah who is also the Assemblyman for Gomoa-Enyeme-Kumasi-Obokrom area, had cautioned people in the area particularly the youth, against bad sexual behaviour since such act could land them in the grips of the deadly disease, AIDS.
