Gomoa Ofaso, C/R, June 12, GNA - The chiefs and the people of Gomoa Ofaso, near Agona Swedru in the Central Region, have appealed to the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to provide the community with potable water. Nana Essilfie Ahemako IV, Chief of the town, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ofaso, at the weekend, said in 1982, the Regional Engineer of GWC made an estimate of one million cedis to lay pipe lines from Gomoa Afransi to Ofaso. He said since the presentation of estimate, nothing had been done or heard again.
Nana Ahemako noted that even though, two bole holes had been provided for the town the problem still persisted due to its salinity of the soil.
He stated that because of this children had to walk about one kilometre on the highways to fetch pipe borne water from Gomoa Afransi every morning before going to school.
The Chief said the current expansion work at the Agona Kwanyako water head works Dam to pump millions of gallons a day could help solve the problem since the pipeline would pass through Afransi to Apam and other towns in the area.
Nana Ahemako appealed to the Minister of Water Resource and Works and Housing to help the community to have access to good drinking water to reduce water-borne diseases.
