Gonjaland Youth Association renews call for a region

Buipe, (N/R), April 16, GNA - The Gonjaland Youth Association has renewed its call for the creation of another region from the Northern Region to facilitate the development of the area.

The Association noted that the size of the Northern Region and its remoteness made it difficult for smooth administration and even development.

Alhaji Ahmed Ewura, National President of the Gonjaland Youth Association, made the appeal at the 30th annual congress of the association at Buipe, capital of the Central Gonja District on Saturday.

The forum on the theme, "Emerging chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland - The role of the Youth" was to review activities and programmes of the Association over the past year and to plan for the future.

Alhaji Ewura pointed out that the Association's call was based purely on the consideration for development devoid of political, religious, tribal or racial undertones and appealed for the needed support for the request.

He also called for the establishment of a Teachers' Training and Nursing Training Colleges to promote education and health care in the area

"This is of great concern to we the youth and we wish to call on the government to consider establishing these institutions in the Gonjaland to help train teachers and health personnel who will accept posting to our remote communities", he said.

Alhaji Ewura appealed to the government to improve roads to facilitate inter and intra trade, tourism and the transportation of people, goods and services in Gonjaland.

"The tarring of the Fufulso-Sawla road, the rest of the Tamale-Salaga road and the Bole-Bambio road as among others are of great concern to us and need government's urgent attention", he said.
