Government commended by Private School in Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 7, GNA - The Managing Director of the Synelaire International School, Professor Emmanuel Sampson Okyne, has commended the government for supplying some private schools in Winneba with some quantities of textbooks to enhance their academic work. Professor Okyne made the commendation at the third Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the school at Winneba on Saturday.

He suggested that such assistance and others would be given to the private schools to enable them continue to contribute towards the promotion of education in the country.

Professor Okyne appealed to the government to include private schools in the capitation grant and school feeding programme to enable children in that sector also enjoy the government's good programme. He said that the school had acquired a land at Asanful, near Winneba for the construction of a new building, costing 2.5 billion cedis to serve as classrooms and residential accommodation for masters and staff.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Alexander Shakespeare Ampong urged parents to invest in their children's education to enable them become useful future leaders.

He suggested to parents to avoid the practice of spending heavily on unnecessary things including drinking and funerals and channelled the money through education of their children.

Mr Ampong urged parents and guardians to visit the schools of their children to know their academic performance, adding that, the school, which started with 20 children in 2003, now has student population of 220.

Awards were given to 30 children, who excelled in their academic works.
