Agogo (Ash), Nov. 13, GNA - Government has released one billion cedis for the construction of additional classrooms and the expansion of the existing ones at the Agogo Nurses Training College in the Asante-Akim North District.
Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, who announced this, said the expansion programme would allow for increased admission to the college to enhance the training of nurses in the country.
He was interacting with the press at Agogo during the inauguration of the Spacefon Cell Site on Friday during which he briefed them on efforts being made by government to facilitate education at all levels. Mr Baah-Wiredu bemoaned the deplorable nature of most facilities at the Agogo Nursing Training College in spite of the fact that the college had over the years trained committed and hard working nurses, who were serving in various capacities in the various hospitals in the country.
The Education Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, said for instance, the college's main lecture hall had not seen any rehabilitation in the last decade or so, stressing that plans were far advanced to make Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) a prominent feature in all the nursing training colleges.
Mr Baah-Wiredu advised the youth, especially the males ones not to perceive nursing as a preserve of only women, since the profession was not designed for a particular sex or group of people.
Whilst calling on student nurses not to abandon their jobs to look for greener pastures after completing their courses, he cautioned them to be disciplined at all times to justify the investment being made on them by the government and their parents.
