Government urged to complete Police Flats at Swedru

Agona-Nyakrom (C/R), Aug 1 GNA - Nana Odiako Bonsu, Tufuhene of Nyakrom, has appealed to the government to expedite action to complete the Police flats and offices at the Swedru Divisional Police Headquarters.

He said the project, which was started in 1972, had since been abandoned and nothing was being done to ensure its completion to solve the accommodation problems of the Police.

Nana Bonsu, who is a Former Presiding Member of the Agona District Assembly, made the appeal when Mr Justice K. Asante, Swedru Divisional Police Commander, briefed the chiefs, people and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, about the security situation in the area.

Nana Bonsu said the Police accommodation in the District apart from Agona Swedru was not decent and there was the need to improve them. He stressed that as population continued to increase, the crime wave would also go up, and there would be the need to engage more Police to protect life and property.

The Former Presiding Member said the chiefs of Nyakrom released a large tract of land for the construction of permanent structures for the Police at Nyakrom but to no avail.

Chief Superintendent Asante pledged that the Police would continue to protect life and property.

He appealed to the people to reactivate all watchdog committees to help beef up security in the area.
