Government urged to provide security in three communities to avoid

further clash

Accra, May 5, GNA - Three communities in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions have appealed to the Government and the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security measures to stem clashes in their areas. The communities are Natriku and Amedaka in Greater Accra and Akuse in the Eastern Region. They said they are not secured under the Eastern Regional and Akropong Police Divisional Command.

Mr Joseph Tetteh Auch, Spokesperson of the communities, told a press conference in Accra called to highlight alleged attacks on them by some people from Manya Krobo.

Nene Tetteh Amoaku IV, Chief of Natriku; Nene Teye Triku, Development Chief of Osudoku Traditional Area and Nene Kweku Kudivor, Chief of Amedaka flanked Mr Auch.

Mr Auch alleged that on April 28, some mercenaries were sent in buses to partake in a sod-cutting ceremony at the Akuse Children Hospital. "The mercenaries made some inflammatory statements and insinuations against the people of Akuse."

Mr Auch said immediately after the event, some organized armed group from Odumase Krobo planned and descended on Akuse with the aim of capturing and killing Nene Tiriku, whom they considered as a thorn in their flesh, because of his development oriented programmes at Akuse. The Spokesperson said the group went ahead to destroy Nene Tiriku's residence while singing war songs and drumming.

"All reports to the Akuse Police and the Divisional Commander of Akropong since May 1, this year have been ignored and treated with contempt," Mr Auch said.

Mr Auch, therefore, appealed to the Government to cause the arrest of all those behind this unfortunate incidence and deal with them. He expressed the gratitude of the people to the Government and the Inspector General Police Nana Owusu Nsiah for rising up to the occasion and swiftly flushing out the attackers
