Sunyani, (B/A), Aug. 9, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of the National Council on Women and Development (NCWD) has commended the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor for appointing three women as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Region. The three are Madam Elizabeth Obah, for Jaman North, Hajia Bintu Farizana for Wenchi and Madam Cynthia Danso for Sene District. A press statement dated August 5, 2005 and signed by Mrs Juliana Amponsah, Regional Co-ordinator of the Secretariat stated that, the action, the first time three women had been made DCE at a go in the Region, was an indication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's commitment towards ensuring an increased participation of women in the decision-making process.
The statement linked the governmental decision to an appeal made by Mrs Amponsah at a recent seminar in Sunyani to mark the regional celebration in this year's International Women's Day. Making that appeal Mrs Amponsah said it was the opinion of the NCWD that the appointment of more women at the various political and decision-making levels "is crucial to the development of Ghana". The statement expressed the hope that the three appointed female DCEs for the Region would live up to expectation to justify the confidence reposed in them by the President and the people in their respective districts. It called on all DCEs in the country to support Gender Mainstreaming (Equality).
