Ho, July 06, GNA - Barely three weeks after the endorsement of Mr Mawutor Goh as the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, a group claiming to be representative of Asogli Youth on Tuesday took to the streets of Ho to demonstrate against his endorsement.
The youth, numbering about 60 and dressed in red, drummed, danced, sang war songs and carried placards some of which read "Goh must go", "Mr President do away with the party gurus in the region", "You can't intimidate us," "Account for the National Health Insurance registration money."
The demonstrators later presented a petition through their spokesman Mr Kwasi Akpo, a physically challenged person, to the Regional Administration.
The petition called on the President to revoke Mr Goh's appointment as the Ho Municipal Chief Executive and carry investigations into allegations made against him.
The allegations include the alleged spending of 400 million cedis to renovate his bungalow, embezzlement of 163 million cedis from proceeds of market tolls, the allocation of the assembly's Nissan pick-up and a driver to his wife and the diversion of 250 million cedis meant for awareness creation on the National Health Insurance Scheme. The petition alleged that the party's regional top brass, under mysterious circumstances, got interview letters of about four other applicants for the position of the Ho Municipal Chief Executive missing and this made Mr Goh the only contestant.
The petition alleged that Mr Goh paid 300 million cedis to the party chiefs in the region for his nomination.
During the endorsement of Mr Goh, pockets of posters were seen on some walls along the main streets of Ho, protesting against the appointment. 06 July 05
