Sekondi, Jan 29, GNA - The Right Reverend Albert David Gomez, Bishop of the Guinea Anglican Communion and Dean of the Church of Province of West Africa (CPWA) is leading an eight-member delegation on behalf of the Provincial Secretariat of the CPWA in Accra to the church in Sekondi.
This is to find an amicable solution to the growing disagreement between the church leadership and the Cathedral Church of the Saint Andrew the Apostle parish in Sekondi.
Mr William Daniels, Church Secretary disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi on Sunday.
He said the delegation included, His Lordship Mr Justice S. I. O. McCarthy, Provincial Chancellor from Guinea, Very Rev. Ajayi Nicol, Dean of the Saint George's Cathedral, Sierra Leone, Very Rev. Jean Batise Camara, Dean of All Saints Cathedral Guinea and Nana Serwaah Ayibotele, Provincial Lay Secretary, Accra, Mr Michel Benjatoun, Diocesan Treasurer, Guinea.
The rest include Rev. George Pepra Addo, General Secretary, Religious Bodies Consultative Committee, Western Region and Rev. Cephas C. Yeboah, Acting member Religious Bodies Consultative Committee. Mr Daniels said the delegation would meet the parish council and find amicable solutions to problems facing the church.
He said without unity and reconciliation, the church could not move forward and urged all parishioners to exercise restrain, while the delegation attempts to settle the misunderstanding.
It would be re-called that some parishioners had filed lawsuits against the leadership of the church for inappropriately electing Venerable Colonel (Rtd) John Kwamina Otoo, as Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese in contravention of the church's constitution. A consecration service, which should have been held on December 21, last year at the Saint Stephen's Anglican Church, Tema, was postponed due a court injunction.
A Tema High Court sitting on January 20 this year placed a 10 days injunction of the consecration and enthronement service within the church or any part of the church.
However the consecration ceremony took place on January 22 at Tema.
Red flags had been hang around the entire premises of the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, the Apostle in Sekondi, while the church service was held outdoors in protest against the consecration of Ven. Otoo, as the bishop of Sekondi. There was a Police presence around the church premises. 29 Jan 06
