Begoro (E/R), Sept 24, GNA - Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, the District Director of Education for Fanteakwa, has cautioned head teachers in public basic schools against imposing any levies on parents in view of the introduction of the government's Capitation Grant.
Speaking to head teachers at Begoro on Wednesday, Mr Peter-Andoh said headteachers who would be caught collecting fees from parents and for that matter drive pupils away for non-payment, would be sanctioned. He said the government's capitation fee policy takes care of all pupils in pubic kindergartens also.
Mr Peter-Andoh said the government had subsidized the registration fee of BECE for 2006 at the cost of 95,000 cedis per candidate and that parents would contribute only 40,000 cedis. The government is also supplying textbooks to all basic schools this year.
The headteachers appealed to the government to include printing fees of examination question papers in the capitation grant since without it, there would be no terminal assessment of pupils in schools.
