Kumasi, July 22, GNA- Health service estate managers have been called upon to effectively manage waste in the hospitals to prevent health facilities being turned into breeding grounds for mosquitoes and diseases.
Mr Said Al-Hussein of the Human Resource Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), made the call at the on-going workshop for 16 new Estate managers.
He reminded participants that waste management was an issue of attitude and that they must ensure that patients and visitors did not litter the hospitals with waste.
He said there could be incinerators placed in the wards or placed at vantage points at the hospitals or health centres but some people would dump waste anywhere to create filth.
Mr Al-Hussein said not all waste had to be disposed of, adding that some waste could be recycled and it was the duty of the participants to provide bins for collection of the waste.
