Health care providers advised against fraudulent claims

A senior claims manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has cautioned health care providers against fraudulent practices that tend to adversely affect the sustainability of the health insurance scheme.

Mr. Nicholas Afram Osei said the filling of claim forms for services not rendered and inflation of the quantity of medicines supplied could not continue.

Speaking at a day’s workshop organized for health professionals from the various facilities at Bibiani in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District on Monday, he said it was important for stakeholders to accept to work together to promote transparency in the operation of the Scheme.

The workshop provided the platform for participants to discuss effective ways of checking the incidence of fraud in claims payments.

Mr. Afram Osei insisted that claims' records for submission must be signed by a permanent staff assigned to do so and sent with a summary sheet and a cover letter.

He said the total Out-Patient Department (OPD) payment claims for medicine and those for in-patients must also be recorded properly.**
