Heavy security in Yendi ahead of funerals of late Overloads of Dagbon

Scores of police/Military personnel have been deployed in Yendi in the Northern Region ahead of the funeral of one of the Overlords of Dagbon tomorrow.

The security officers are dotted all over the historic town with a barrier mounted at the entrance of the town for thorough body search before one is allowed entry.

There’s also heavy security presence at the two palaces and that of the Kingmakers palace.

Conflict over who becomes the Ya-Na has raged for more than 16 years leading to fights and deaths of several people.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been leading mediation talks for the past 12 years and has secured a peace pact with the feuding factions.

As the peace pack is implemented the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Said who’s the Head of the Regional Security Council said security has been beefed up ahead of the funeral of one of the Overlords tomorrow.

“When the funerals are performed Dagbon will stand united, it will not be a central authority, one leadership everybody will come to pay homage. I want to also appeal that Yendi township will be seeing a lot of visitors and new security officers, try to corporate with them they are just here for peace. So support them to live peacefully and work peacefully with you people.”
