Kumasi, May 9, GNA - The Heidelberg Print Media Academy (PMA) in Germany is to support the Publishing Studies Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to develop its course structure and equipment to enhance the human resource development of the country.
The Industrial and Professional Relations Officer for the College of Arts and Social Science (CASS) of KNUST, Mr. Ralph Nyadu-Addo, said in line with this the head of the media relations of the Heidelberg PMA, Mr. Deltlev Dierkes, would soon visit the Publishing Studies Department to access and discuss the needs of the Department. Mr Nyadu-Addo said this when he briefed newsmen in Kumasi on Wednesday after he had led 14 final year students of the Department on an 11-day tour of some publishing, printing firms and universities in Germany. The trip, sponsored by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauscdienst (DAAD), a German Academic Exchange Service, took the students to the Bergischer University in Wuppertal, Ruediger Koeppe Publishing House in Cologne, Heidelberg Printing Company and Gutenberg Museum. Mr. Nyadu-Addo said during the tour, he presented a paper on the growing industry in Ghana whilst Heidelberg PMA also donated some magazines and audio-visuals worth over 5,000 Euros to the visiting students.
He commended the German government, DAAD, KNUST, University of Wuppertal and Heidelberg authorities for their support which made their trip possible as well as the German Embassy in Ghana. He said Heidelberg had also sent similar invitation to some lecturers, students of the Department as well as Managers of the KNUST Printing Press to attend the world's biggest printing fair to be held in Dussedolf, Germany, in June.
