Agona Fawomanye (C/R), July 22, GNA - The Chiefs and people of nine communities in the Fawomanye Electoral Area of the Agona District in the Central Region, have appealed to the authorities to rehabilitate the Fawomanye Bridge over River Ayensu.
Mr Mansfield Attah-Ninsin, Asseblyman for the Fawomanye Electoral Area who took the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to inspect the bridge on Thursday, said it was built in the 1930s, adding that, the poor state could lead to a disaster if it was not repaired soon.
Mr Attah-Ninsin said the area was noted for the cultivation of cassava, maize, yam, tomatoes, beans and cash crops. He said due to the state of the bridge many drivers had stopped plying the route.
The Assemblyman said the0 people who were basically farmers found it difficult to cart their produce to the marketing centres. He stated that this had led to hardship on the electorate and appealed to the MP for Agona West, Mr Samuel Obodai who is also Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport for help in rehabilitating the bridge and tarring of the road from Fawomanye to Gomoa Akotsi to link the Accra-Cape Coast trunk road.
