High Court orders fresh nominations and elections for Ho Central NPP

Ho, April 8, GNA - A High Court at Ho on Thursday ordered the Volta Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to open fresh and free nominations by April 13, 2004, towards the election of new executives for the Ho Central Constituency of the party under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.

This followed the nullification by the Court of two previous elections which put rival executives into office.

One of the factions, led by Mr Seth Anyadi, consequently brought an action before the Court seeking to nullify the position of the rival group, led by Mr Van Seshie Torblu.

The court directed that those to be elected should be sworn into office by the District Magistrate to whom an interim executives, currently in place, should hand over.

The report on the nomination and elections should be signed by the Secretary at the party secretariat and the EC and submitted to the court, the presiding judge, Mr Justice Paul Gyaesayor, ruled on Thursday. No costs were awarded.

Mr Anyadi and his group contended that they were the properly elected Constituency executives and that the Torblu faction was the outcome of an illegally conducted election on May 31 last year.

Mr Justice Gyaesayor, however, declared that both elections held on April 12, 2003, which brought in Mr Seth Anyadi and his group and that of May 31, 2003 of Mr Torblu and his group contravened the NPP constitution, as well as the Political Parties Law. 08 Apr. 04
