A total of 33 basic schools in the Ho Municipal area on Friday received 1,000 mono and dual desks from the Ho Municipal Assembly.
Mr. Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, who presented the desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward presentation to the schools, said the package is in pursuance of the “Better Ghana Agenda” of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto.
Mr. Kodobisah said the 1,000 desks were the first consignment delivered by MOFRA and Sons Construction Limited few weeks ago to the Assembly.
He said Ossei Bossie Limited and Deltafa Limited would also deliver 800 and 1,000 pieces respectively to the Assembly very soon for onward presentation to the schools.
Mr. Kodobisah said government in addition to the supply of furniture was providing classroom blocks, free exercise books and uniforms with an increase in the capitation grant towards achieving quality education.
In a reaction to a GNA story carried by the Ghanaian Times on the front page of its Thursday, May 17 edition, on how hundreds of dual desks were left at the mercy of the weather for several months at the Assembly yard, he said the Assembly only provided a place for the contractor to fix the desks which had not been well sorted.
“It was this process of assembling the furniture that some people failed to understand that the contractors have to finish with the assembling process, apply weevil-free chemical and final polishing; and subjecting them to inspection and final handling over to the assembly for onward delivery.” Mr. Kodobisah stated.
Mr. John Teku, Deputy Director of Planning at the Municipal Education Directorate on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, expressed gratitude to government for the gesture saying the desks would alleviate the furniture plight facing the schools and urged the heads of beneficiary schools to make good use of the furniture.**
